Wednesday, 22 November, 2023
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has recently inaugurated the Incubation Centre for Professional Business Experience. This strategic initiative, founded by Dr Flevy Lasrado in collaboration with Economic Times HRWorld Middle East, aims to significantly enhance the internship experience for students, preparing them for the complexities of the modern business world.
Emphasizing the importance of this initiative and the extensive research behind it, Dr Lasrado noted, "The Incubation Centre is a unique model to support internships. Underpinned by several theoretical models, the Centre will help our students find new opportunities to gain workplace experience thus addressing inclusion and particularly inclusive work-integrated learning (WIL).”
This launch is a response to the growing need for graduates who are equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. By focusing on work-integrated learning, the Centre allows students to apply academic theories in real-world business scenarios, a crucial step towards improving their employability.
Research indicates that students who participate in such practical internships generally achieve better employment outcomes, making this Centre an essential addition to UOWD's educational offerings.
The inauguration event, attended by major companies like UPS, Ford, VFS Global, and Masafi, highlights the Centre's role in facilitating effective university-industry partnerships. These collaborations are essential in providing students with authentic learning environments and exposure to real-world business challenges.
The Incubation Centre at UOWD represents a significant commitment to creating a workforce that is not only academically knowledgeable but also adaptable, skilled, and ready to meet the dynamic demands of various industries.
