- Dr Ciara O’Driscoll
Dr Ciara O’Driscoll is Assistant Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). Dr O’Driscoll obtained her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Limerick, Ireland.
Dr O’Driscoll’s philosophy of teaching is always evolving and is shaped by her experiences as a learner and as a teacher over the years. According to her, the key traits of a great teacher are knowing how to empower learners; knowing how to inspire learners; seeking to bring learners to their full potential and engaging in a way of teaching that is student-centred. It is her belief that real learning comes from doing and so in her teaching, she aims to design as much student-centred, problem-based lessons as possible.
Prior to joining UOWD, Dr O’Driscoll worked for Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Ireland as Lecturer in Mathematics Support Unit; Lecturer for a Professional Diploma course in Mathematics for Teaching and as third-level tutor.
She has a successful career record as an industry specialist and worked for companies such as Stryker Neurovascular, Cork, Ireland; Protiviti Middle East Firm, UAE and Major Projects Group-Global, Dubai, UAE since completing her PhD in 2013. She also co-developed online courses for industry professionals during her time with MPG Global.
