"The MBA program was more than just learning from books; it was about understanding how these concepts play out in the actual business world"- Mei Wang
Originally from China and having lived in the UAE for 12 years, Mei is the founder and driving force behind a thriving business consulting firm in Dubai.
After pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), Mei Wang ventured into the dynamic world of business consulting. Her firm, which assists companies in acquiring business licenses and establishing onshore and offshore operations, has quickly expanded across three locations in the UAE. Mei's leadership has been central to this growth. "Every step we took was about learning what works best for our clients and our team," she says.
Mei's initial challenge was building a reliable team, which she approached with determination. "Finding the right people is crucial, and once you do, it transforms the entire business," she reflects. Her ability to repay initial investors within two years is a testament to her effective leadership and the team's hard work.
During her time at UOWD, Mei enjoyed a curriculum that balanced academic theory with real-world applications. "The MBA program was more than just learning from books; it was about understanding how these concepts play out in the business world," Mei recalls. This practical approach at UOWD laid a solid foundation for her future business endeavours.
Mei is a firm believer in continuous learning and the value of relationships. "I don't see myself as self-made. Every person I meet, every interaction I have, teaches me something valuable," she says. This perspective is evident in how she manages her business, always open to new ideas and viewpoints. "Building relationships is at the heart of my business approach. You never know where your next lesson will come from."
Looking back, Mei views her MBA as a critical turning point. "It was more than an education; it was an experience that built my confidence and expanded my network in ways I couldn't have imagined," she states. Her ongoing connections with her professors are a source of continuous support and guidance.
In her personal life, Mei emphasizes balance and well-being, enjoying Body Combat to maintain physical fitness and spending quality time with her father. "These personal moments are as important as any business meeting. They keep me grounded and focused," she shares.
For current students at UOWD, Mei's advice is to engage deeply with their passions and learn from every experience. "Your education is just the beginning. The real learning happens when you apply it to real-world challenges," she advises.
Mei Wang's story from an ambitious MBA student to a successful business leader is not just about her accomplishments but also about the relationships she's built and the lessons she's learned along the way. Her journey is a vivid example of how education, combined with a commitment to continuous learning and relationship-building, can lead to remarkable achievements in the business world.
