“Entrepreneurship is not easy, but when I feel like giving up, I remind myself of the impact I have on others, and that gives me strength to keep going.” - Nooran Albannay
Nooran Albannay, an Emirati entrepreneur, CEO, and founder of Coffee Architecture, has charted an unconventional path from her engineering career to the coffee industry.
After graduating from the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) in 2011 with a Master’s in Quality Management, she embarked on a successful career as a Senior Quality Engineer at ADNOC Onshore. Yet, it was her love for coffee that ultimately reshaped her path.
In 2018, Nooran founded Coffee Architecture, driven by a deep-seated passion that had long been simmering beneath her professional achievements. “Launching Coffee Architecture was a dream come true, allowing me to merge my love for coffee with my professional skills,” she says. This venture not only showcased her expertise as a barista but also marked her as a prominent Emirati entrepreneur in the UAE.
Transitioning from an engineering background to the world of coffee was far from easy. “It was daunting to step into entrepreneurship without prior business experience,” Nooran admits. Yet, her background in quality management provided her with a unique perspective that she applies to her coffee business. “The analytical skills and attention to detail I developed at UOWD help me ensure that every cup of coffee at Coffee Architecture meets the highest standards,” she explains.
The drive behind Nooran’s accomplishments is deeply personal. The passing of her grandmother in 2016 became a source of profound motivation. “Her memory fuels my determination to achieve great things and make her proud,” Nooran reflects. During moments of doubt, she reminds herself of the impact she has on those around her. “When I feel like giving up, I ask myself two questions: Who envisions me as my best self? Who relies on my service? These questions help me find the strength to keep going,” she says.
Nooran’s time at UOWD left a lasting impression on her approach to business. “The education I received provided me with a strategic mindset that I apply daily,” she notes. The sense of fulfilment she derives from seeing the fruits of her hard work is evident in her ongoing dedication to her craft.
Outside of her professional life, Nooran finds joy in travelling, watching movies, socialising with friends, and staying active through running and tennis. Her advice to others is straightforward: “Perfection isn’t attainable. Focus on making consistent progress and see failure as a step in your learning journey.”
As we celebrate Nooran’s success, we are proud to have her as a distinguished member of the UOWD alumni community. Her story of transformation from a dedicated engineer to a visionary entrepreneur exemplifies the values of perseverance and passion. We are honoured to support and celebrate her achievements as she continues to inspire others with her journey.
