Master of Information Technology Management (MITM)

Objective

The Master of Information Technology Management (MITM) degree program is designed to equip and prepare IT professionals working in various industries for the increasing complexities of the digital economy. Small business enterprises and large corporations are operating in a global and competitive environment, hence, the rising demand for IT experts who can automate organizational processes by utilizing the latest innovations in technology and business. Managing the growing pervasiveness of information and communication technologies in today’s business has become a mandatory requirement for current technology professionals and IT managers.

Computer technologies, including hardware, software, networking, security, e-commerce and others are now integrated into the infrastructure of every organization. Competent IT managers are sought not only by companies engaged in the production or engineering of IT products but equally by existing and new service companies. The knowledge and skills necessary to anticipate, manage and implement business and technological advances that are critical to future business success are always highly in demand.

The program is intended to broaden the students’ knowledge by providing them with a bridge connecting the academic environment and the outside world. MITM aims at making its graduates adept at coping up with the perpetually advancing industry of Information Technology and its application in business. Further, MITM allows students to make the appropriate business-technology decisions appropriate for today’s changing business environment, and prepares them to become tomorrow's information leaders; thereby, enabling graduates to effectively plan and execute strategic information technology initiatives.

Program Structure

The Master of Information Technology Management (MITM) consists of ten (10) subjects in total. Students typically complete two (2) subjects in a semester which consists of 13 teaching weeks in Autumn and Spring and 10 teaching weeks in Summer. At this rate, students are able to complete the degree program in five (5) semesters.

  • *IACT999 Emerging Topics in Information Technology (* Capstone Subject)

In addition, students must choose one of the following streams of electives and select any two (2) subjects from that streams:

Program Summary

Duration This course is normally 5 semesters in length.
Intakes

There are three intakes each year (Autumn, Spring and Summer).

  • Spring Semester: January – April
  • Summer Semester: May – July
  • Autumn Semester: August – December
Timing / Attendance

Attendance is compulsory.

Each subject requires one evening of attendance per week.

Classes are held 6.00pm – 9.00pm, Sunday to Thursday.

LecturersAll lecturers are PhD. qualified and have comprehensive business experience in the discipline.

Admission Requirements

A recognized Bachelors Degree in an IT related field (e.g. IT, MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

Probationary Admission Requirements

Students with a Bachelors Degree in an IT related field from a recognized University and GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent may be granted probationary admission.

Students on probation should enrol in and complete two subjects in the first semester and must achieve a semester average score of 60% in the two subjects taken to continue in the program.

If the student does not obtain the minimum average score of 60% in the two subjects, the student will be dismissed and not be allowed to enrol again in this program.

Admission With Refresher Course Requirements

Students who meet the GPA requirements in the Admission Requirements or Probationary Admission Requirements above, but who have not successfully completed the following subjects:

  • accountancy
  • finance
  • marketing
  • statistics
  • operations management

as part of their undergraduate degree will need to successfully complete the applicable subject(s) as designed by UOWD and approved by the Commission for Academic Accreditation for the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Degree Completion Requirements

To qualify for award of the degree of Master of Information Technology a candidate must:

  • accrue an aggregate of at least 60 credit points by completing and passing the required core and elective subjects, and
  • achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 / 4.0 (equivalent to 60% average at UOWD).

Articulation

Students, who have completed courses in MBA, MIB or MQM offered by UOWD, must meet the specific Admission Requirements of the MITM Program in order to articulate over. In such cases, where eligibility exists, these students can complete the MITM Program by completing 8 additional subjects.
